The New Studley Tunnel is a replacement for part of the Elan Aqueduct, which carries water from mid-Wales to Birmingham. The 1.3 km long, 2.8 m diameter replacement tunnel was constructed through complex Carboniferous and Devonian strata affected by folding and faulting. The contractor's engineering geologist played a part in interpreting the ground conditions from the tender stage through to the completion of the works.
